Recently, I travelled to Seattle, Washington with my wife and daughter to attend a family social event.
After missing two United Airlines’ connecting flights from Chicago, we finally arrived at Seattle’s SEATAC Airport after 11:30 p.m. in the evening. Originally, we were supposed to arrive earlier in the evening, but because of delays in Buffalo, we couldn’t reach Chicago in time to catch our scheduled flight to Seattle, or the next one. Freed after spending over 50 days in Egyptian prison, Tarek Loubani and John Greyson are now back in Canada.
This year’s “Con Job” on the Canadian press award has to go to Tarek Loubani and John Greyson, the two Canadians that were held in Egyptian prisons without being charged by Egyptian officials. Throughout their 51 day imprisonment and additional 5 day in which they were not allowed to leave Egypt, all they did was sing their own rendition of Warren Zevon’s song, Poor Poor Pitiful Me.

Will Rogers, Simple But Insightful
I was doing some reading on the political sages of the last century and came across the words of Will Rogers, who died in a plane crash in 1935. As well as being a humourist, he was probably one of the great political sages of his day. His views on life, society, conduct and politics are simple, straight forward and insightful.
Here they are, Will Roger’s Top 21 rules of life, conduct and society, which have now been adapted to Canadian society. I’m sure that you will agree that they never go out of style and are applicable to today.
1. We are all here for a spell; get all the good laughs you can.
2. Never miss a good chance to shut up.
– Everyone, and especially all politicians should live by this standard.
3. Never kick a cow chip on a hot day.
4. Always drink upstream from the herd.
Ladies and gentlemen, please fasten your seatbelts, Porter Airlines is ready for another takeoff.
Once again, Porter Airlines and its CEO Robert DeLuce are embroiling the citizens of Toronto in another controversy. Since its beginning, upstart Porter Airlines, has proven where others have failed, that operating a regularly scheduled airline from Toronto City Centre Billy Bishop Airport can be done profitably and with panache.
In its first few years of operation, Porter had to contend with locally organized political opposition which made the organization and its concept of soaring through the skies in style, the cannon fodder over which elections were fought. Thankfully, times have changed, and progress and economic stimulus are no longer looked down upon.
